Under the Air Commerce Act of 1926 the Secretary of Commerce was empowered to examine and rate airports. Night landings accomplished by "following the lights on Kemp Ave." Cooke and another pilot flew exhibitions and had, possibly, the first pilot training school in the Midwest. Walter Cooke, a music store owner, purchased 2 planes and established first airfield near present location of stadium. The following is a timeline of events for the Watertown Regional Airport since October 10th, 1917. ![]() Since that time, the airport has strived to be a friendly neighbor and member of the community, while displaying the joy of aviation and the economic prosperity that airports bring. ![]() In fact, records indicate that the airport was up and running as early as October 10th, 1917. The Watertown Regional Airport has been a member of our community long before the 1940's.
